Bohol Delicacies

Bohol is one of the places people go to when they want to relax and unwind, and it is a great destination for that too. It has a combination of numerous things that people look for in a vacation spot, and these include powdery white sand beaches, luxurious resorts, unique sites to visit, and amazing activities to indulge in. Another thing that people love about Bohol is their delicacies.

Not that many people neglect to take note of the yummy goodies that come from this part of the Philippines, and for good reason. This is because delicacies from Bohol are delicious and utterly addictive. Here are some of their more popular take-home (and eat-there) treats that you cannot and should not miss:

Peanut Kisses – these are one of the most popular treats you can get from this island, and you can easily tell which of the goodies these is because of its telltale shape. Some people say it is shaped to represent the Chocolate Hills for which Bohol is famous for, while others say it is shaped like a Hershey’s Kiss, hence the name Peanut Kisses. Whatever the reason is for the shape, or the name, you can be sure that this treat is something that you will not stop eating with the first piece.

Kalamay – this is a very sticky, sweet treat that you would not want to eat alone, once you open up the coconut shell that is the container of this rich, dark, sweet delight, you will need to finish it off the same day since it will not be the same afterwards. This treat is made out of ground up sticky rice, brown sugar, and peanuts. This is sometimes eaten alone on a spoon, or placed inside bread as an afternoon snack or something to pair with coffee in the morning.

Broas – known internationally as Lady Fingers, these delicate biscuits are light and airy, and can be eaten alone or used to create refrigerator cakes, like Tiramisu or Mango Ice Box Cake. These are made using egg whites, sugar, a little bit of flour, and vanilla extract. These are sometimes considered too delicate to pack in with luggage when purchased for pasalubong purposes, so these are usually hand-carried by whoever buys them.

Kinatloan – these are tough cookies that are shaped like rough, round doughnuts. These are great for snacks with coffee, which people usually do, and they dip this in the coffee to soften it a bit before biting into the biscuit. You can call this Bohol’s take on the biscotti.
